Rick Abbruzzese has a long successful record of advocacy in Maryland. Prior to joining KO, Rick served as Vice President, Public Affairs for a multi-national real estate investment and development group where he led public relations, government affairs and marketing campaigns for numerous investment funds and development projects throughout the United States and Canada. In this role, Rick oversaw the development of place-making and experiential marketing campaigns in Maryland, Georgia, Texas and Florida.
Rick served as a top adviser and Director of Public Affairs to former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. As chief spokesperson for the O’Malley administration, he was responsible for overseeing internal and external communications, political outreach, policy development and intergovernmental affairs for the governor’s office. In this role, Rick also served as a senior strategist on Maryland’s Dream Act referendum campaigns.
Rick has long-standing relationships with members of the local and national media, top elected officials in Annapolis and Baltimore, including the Mayor’s Office and Baltimore City Council and community leaders. Prior to his tenure with O’Malley, Rick worked for nationally-known public affairs agencies including Widmeyer Communications and Porter Novelli in Washington, D.C. and Arnold Worldwide in Boston.
