Senior Account Executive/Vice President
KO is hiring a senior account executive/vice president to serve as a strategic communications advisor and account manager for a portfolio of corporate, trade, and non-profit clients. We are seeking an experienced public affairs professional with strong instincts, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Depending on the candidate’s level of experience, we are looking to hire a senior account executive or vice president. All qualified, interested candidates are encouraged to apply.
Manage relationships and day-to-day communications with a portfolio of clients in varied business and non-profit industries
Develop and execute integrated strategic communications plans, including message and collateral development, stakeholder outreach and coalition building, and earned and paid media strategies
Execute paid media strategies, including leveraging emerging media as content delivery devices for public affairs, and making strategic TV/radio/digital advertising buys for client campaigns
Develop and run issue advocacy and constituent communications campaigns, including email blast and action alert campaigns, phone programs and direct mail
Draft all copywriting needs for accounts as identified, including but not limited to; press releases, media advisories, op-eds/letters to the editors, testimony, event talking points, email communications, and more
Create and manage client tactical budgets, including regular expense tracking, reporting, and billing
Identify and serve as the main point of contact with community and business stakeholders, key government staff, and members of the press on the client’s behalf, including regular pitch calls to reporters
Support the Firm’s business development goals through potential client outreach and networking, proposal drafting, presentation development, and preparation for and participation in pitch meetings
Along with Firm leadership, serve as a thought leader in Public Affairs in the Maryland business, policy, and political industries
Manage a small team of communications associates, who will provide day-to-day support on all client accounts
Manage and maintain media and other content management software programs (Cision PR, Mailchimp, etc).
The Ideal Candidate will:
Be self-motivated and an independent worker with a strong work ethic
Be committed to the KO team, the firm’s clients, and company’s growth goals
Possess the ability to quickly process new information and react to daily tasks in an efficient and effective manner
Be willing and available to work an occasional weekend and/or evening on an as-needed basis in order to attend client events and provide additional support to staff on client projects and deadlines
Be flexible and have a sense of humor
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially over the phone and through email
Possess strong organizational skills and an unwavering attention to detail
8–12 years of work experience in one or more of the following: political campaigns, government or government relations, grassroots, issue advocacy, corporate communications and public relations
Agency experience is a plus, but not required
Deep understanding of strategic communications and issue advocacy and how they interconnect with greater business goals and plans
Extensive experience and professional strengths in coalition building and stakeholder outreach
Experience in growing and managing a team, including creating and maintaining account processes and regularly delegating team assignments
Familiar with and comfortable managing multiple projects and accounts on a consistent basis
Skilled networker — existing relationships with the Maryland media, business community, and amongst state and local elected officials is preferred, but not required
Competitive benefits package offered to all full-time employees. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Frequent day trips for out-of-office meetings and events throughout the state. Out-of-state/overnight travel, less than 10%.
